报告摘要：Auxetic materials with negative Poisson’s ratio have potential applications across a broad range of engineering fields. In this presentation, we focus on the class of star-shaped auxetic structures, which is widely studied in the literature. An important feature that drives the auxetic behaviour of a star-shaped structure is the hinge-functional connection at the vertex connections. This feature poses a great challenge for manufacturing and may lead to significant stress concentrations. To overcome these problems, we introduced smoothed petal-shaped auxetic structures, where the hinges are replaced by smoothed connections. An integrated shape design frame work using isogeometric analysis is adopted to improve the structural performance. The optimized designs – smoothed petal auxetic structures – are first obtained for target negative Poisson’s ratios in the linear elastic regime. Next, the isogeometric shape optimization framework is extended to large deformation analyses, for the design of smoothed petals auxetics with targeted nonlinear deformation behaviour mimicking cat’s skin up to 90% tensile strain.
报告人简介：Dr Leong Hien POH is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore. He received his Ph.D. in 2011 under a joint degree program between the National University of Singapore and the Eindhoven University of Technology. Dr Poh is interested in developing material models that bridge across the micro and macro scales. His research topics include damage mechanics, plasticity models, multi-scale and homogenization methods, and shape optimization. He has published more than 39 papers in the famous journals including JMPS, CMAME, IJNME, IJSS, IJIE, CS and so on.
