In order to promote the development and application of digital twin and intelligent manufacturing service theory, method and technology, the 4th Conference on Digital Twin and Intelligent Manufacturing Service was held in the International Conference Center of Northwestern Polytechnical University from October 30 to November 1. The conference president, Professor Wang Junqiang of Northwestern Polytechnical University hosted the opening ceremony. The conference was guided by the Ministry of engineering and materials science of NSFC and China Society of mechanical engineering and was organized by Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi'an University of science and technology, the editorial department of Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems (CIMS), the Scheduling Sub-society of Operations Research Society of China, the production engineering branch (production system) of China Mechanical Engineering Society and the Industrial Engineering and Management Branch of Shaanxi Mechanical Engineering Society. The Conference was initialized in 2016 by 12 universities, including Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing University of science and technology, and Northwestern Polytechnical University.

Zhang Weihong, the vice president of Northwestern Polytechnical University, gave a welcome speech on behalf of the organizer. He indicated that digital twin and intelligent manufacturing are the main focus of competition among countries in the world. Intelligent manufacturing is the focus of the future world's manufacturing industry, and digital twin is one of the key enabling technologies to realize intelligent manufacturing services. As one of the initiators of the Digital Twin and Intelligent Manufacturing Service Conference, our university has promoted the research and practice of digital twin and intelligent manufacturing service together with other universities and research institutes, and created a new wave of interdisciplinary exploration and application of digital twin.

The conference adopts the form of conference report and group report for academic exchange. Professor Wang Shilong, the vice president of Chongqing University, Professor Jiang Zhibin of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Mei Xuesong of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Qi Feng, the vice president of Siemens Industrial Software Group, Professor Gao Liang of Huazhong University of science and technology, and Professor Tao Fei of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, were invited to give the conference reports. Professor Liu ang of the University of New South Wales, Australia, gave an online report on "digital twin driven engineering design". In the three venues, 21 experts made reports on the three research topics of "digital twin & design", "digital twin & manufacturing" and "digital twin & service", presenting a splendid academic feast for all.
